Harvest....what harvest?

Josh with Avery and Benjamin in the wheat field.

The guys posing for a picture in the wheat that they would have much preferred to be cutting!

Climbing into Grandpa's combine!

Yes, it was also my first time in a combine, Josh is showing all of us the ropes. I have to admit, it was pretty cool. Wish I could have seen them cut.

Avery jumped right on the tractor with Grandpa, and took the wheel! She was driving all over the place.

Now, Ben on the other hand, had to be tricked. I really don't like to do that to the kids, but sometimes it what you have to do with Ben. Josh knew he would love it if he could only try. Ben is our worrier. He is always asking me if I know where I am going what will happen if, what about this or that. He really thinks and worries about things he has not done before.
Ben was showing me some of the wheat grains in his hand, I told him that was pretty cool, let's show Daddy. (who was on the tractor) As, I was lifting him up to show Josh, Josh grabbed him and took him for a ride. And, just as Josh thought, he loved it. Said he didn't want to get off.
Even though we are all very disappointed that they are not cutting this week, we are having so much fun. The wheat is beautiful, and the kids are having a blast. These pictures are from Tuesday the first day of getting rained out. Josh, Dave and Ryan were able to cut most of the day on Monday, until the storm hit late Monday evening. Another storm come through Tuesday evening with heavy rain and small hail. So, Josh only got to cut for one day. But, Dave is hoping the weather will give him a break and get can get back into the fields this weekend.
After the farm on Tuesday we headed into Chadron for a late lunch then over to Rushville to visit family. We went to Aunt Mary Anne's house and the kids played with their cousins, Logan, Kylee and Katie. We have been able to see them a few times this summer and it is great to see the kids really getting to know each other and having fun. Logan, who is 9 is great with the kids and Ben just loves him. The only older boy in the family and Ben just hangs on everything he does. And, Logan is so good to him, Thank you Logan for the tractor toy Ben is really enjoying it. And in the picture below you can see Avery and Kylee picking apples to make us a pie. Funny, I don't remember seeing a finished product!
We ended our visit with dinner at Yoba's. The kids thought it was great to sit alone in a high pub table. Thank you Mary Anne, Fritz, Mike and Julie for letting us visit for the day. We had a really good time!
